Florence Bowlin Arnold (Jess), age 92 of Harrisburg passed away Friday
April 24. She was born May 24, 1922 in Somerset, Pa. to Minnie (Myers) and
Arthur Bowlin. She was preceded in death by her brothers, James Earl,
Barney, and Claude Bowlin and sisters, Mary Ellen Clark and Mabel Hoopwood.
Flo was an avid bridge player with many groups in the Harrisburg area.
Her sense of humor while playing will be remembered by all who knew and
played with her.
Florence retired from Nationwide Insurance in Harrisburg. She was the
bridal consultant at Bowman's Dept Stores and opened the bridal salons at
JC Penney stores in Lebanon and Harrisburg East Mall. She taught sewing for
many years for Singer Sewing Company in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Many
people will remember Flo from the many craft shows in the area where she
loved to show her Saint Nicholas dolls and other holiday stitchery.
Florence graduated from Somerset High School where she was the first head
majorette of the Somerset Marching Band. She was one of the first
waitresses at the Howard Johnson on the Pennsylvania Turnpike when it
opened in Bedford, where she lived for many years.
Florence is survived by two daughters, Natalie Jess Fritz of Newport, PA
and Donna L. Drumheller (Ronald) of Parrish, Florida. A grandson, Brian
Jess Fritz (Stacy) of Selinsgrove, PA., granddaughters, Stacey Robinson
Shepherd of Katy, Texas and Heidi, and five great grandchildren, Alli and
Cassie Fritz, Brianna and Addison Shepherd and Jaxon.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday at 10 AM at the Calvary United
Methodist Church, 4700 Locust Lane, Harrisburg with Reverend R. Jeffrey
Fisher officiating. Burial is in the Somerset County Memorial Park,
Somerset, PA. at the convenience of the family.
