Shirley Mae (Sheaffer) Hockenberry, 82 years old, of Harrisburg, went to be with our Lord April 1, 2017 at the Hospice Home on Linglestown Road, Harrisburg. She was born July 13, 1934 in Newport to Porter and Madelyn (Lesh) Sheaffer. She was a graduate of Newport High School and had worked for IBM and Nationwide Insurance and part time at Saint Margaret Mary School as playground guard. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Harrisburg where she was active on the altar guild and in doing the flowers. She loved fishing, gardening and cooking wonderful meals for her family.
Shirley went through many illnesses this past year, but she was a fighter to the end. She was the widow of James G. Hockenberry and leaves behind her wonderful daughter, Anita M. Spangler and her husband David who were by her side the last six months of her life. Also, a grandson Joseph Allison and his wife Jess and step grandsons, Luke, Jake and John and many wonderful friends.
Services will be held on Saturday at the David Myers Funeral Home, Newport Pa. with a viewing from 10 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM with the Reverend Mary Eisenacher officiating. Burial will follow in the Eshcol Cemetery, Millerstown.
