James R. Shick, 80, of Newport, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Stonebridge Health and Rehabilitation Center, Duncannon, PA. Jim was born January 20, 1937, in Newport, PA to the late Cletus and G. Pauline (Shotsberger) Shick. He was a member of Hope Eternal United Methodist Church in Newport and an Army Veteran. Following his military discharge, he worked for Pennsylvania Railroad for 10 years and then for United Telephone (Sprint)  for 35 years. He was a very civic minded individual serving as a lifelong member of Newport Volunteer Fire Company, Masonic Lodge #381 F&AM, VFW Post #34, where he was a former Quarter Master, American Legion Post #177 and Newport Social Order of Owls.
  Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy (Freeland) Shick; daughters, Pamela S. Dudley of Harrisburg and Kimberly A. Klinger of Newport;  brother Robert Shick of Edgewater, FL; grandchildren, Brittany M. Shetter, Dalton J. Klinger and Walker J. Klinger. He was preceded in death by his sister, Beverly Gabel.
  Services will be held Friday at Hope Eternal United Methodist Church, 2 Burd Road, Newport, PA.  The viewing will begin at 9:00 AM followed by Masonic Services at 11 AM and the funeral service with Pastor Mary Kay Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Newport Cemetery with military honors by the Perry County Military Honor Guard.
