Betty J. Gabel, 91 years old, of Newport, entered eternal peace Monday September 11, 2017. She was born May 30, 1926 in Newport to John W. and Wilma (Dudley) Clouser. She was a member of the Hope Eternal United Methodist Church and Oliver Grange in Newport. Betty worked side by side with her husband of 71 years on the family farm and enjoyed cooking for her family and community. To her community, she was best known as both the egg lady and pie lady, selling eggs from the farm and baking countless pies over the years for community functions. She cherished spending time with her family and living on the family farm where she took part in their daily interactions. Betty’s focus was always family. She remained a vital and interactive part of their lives through her final days.
Betty was the widow of H. Ray Gabel and is survived by her son, Gerald R. Gabel, and daughter-in-law Stacy Gabel of Newport; grandchildren Patricia Fortenbaugh, Melissa Gabel and Mathew Gabel and great grandson, Jacob Fortenbaugh. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert, John, Donald and William Clouser and sister Florence Tittler.
Services will be held on Saturday from the Hope Eternal Church, 2 Burd Road, Newport with a viewing from 10 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM with Pastor Jean McCleary officiating. Burial will follow at the Newport Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be donated to the Hope Eternal Church. Arrangements
