Helen R. Beichler, 96 years old, formerly of Newport and Couchtown, passed away Monday, January 22, 2018 at The Gardens of West Shore. She was born September 7, 1921 in Couchtown, Perry County to Benjamin and Edith (Wilt) Beichler. She lived and worked on the family farm most of her life and continued her love of gardening into her 80's. After leaving the farm, she was caregiver for 22 years for Pauline Corson, a noted local piano teacher in Newport. She was extremely proud of her marksmanship- bragging of the time she shot a ring-neck pheasant in the neck. She was a gifted seamstress, making many of her own clothing and also created beautiful crewel embroidery and wall hangings.
Helen is survived by nieces Linda Beichler, Janie Geiling and Carolyn Turner; nephews Robert Nesbitt and Ken Saltsburg; faithful friends Mary and Ed Nolt and caregiver Lois Wolfsberger. She was preceded in death by brothers Paul and Harold Beichler and sisters Ruth Nesbitt and Betty Saltsburg.
Graveside services will be Friday at 11 AM at the Blain Cemetery with the Pastor Joshua D. Craley officiating.
