Virginia “Ginny” L. Campbell, of Juniata Parkway East, Newport PA died at her residence on 12.28.18, daughters by her side, following a brief yet fierce battle with liver cancer.

Born May 3, 1935 at home on Walnut Street in Newport PA, to the late Emmett W. “Woody” and Mary E. (Dunn) Crissman, she graduated Newport Joint High School, Class of 1952, where basketball was her sport of choice.  You may remember Ginny from the Newport Elementary School cafeteria having retired in 2005 with 25 years of service.  As a teenager, she worked the J.J. Newberry’s candy counter; and later was hired at Pennsylvania Farm Bureau/Nationwide by referral of Virginia Lesh.  Ginny managed the home front as a trucker’s wife of forty years and was a devoted Mother to Chris-n-Kath and special needs child, Shelby.

Ginny rejoins her husband Nelson whose passing predeceased her by 25 years this New Year’s Eve.

Survivors include daughters Christine C. Campbell and Kathleen M. Campbell, both of Newport; a sister, Margaret I. Dudley of Mifflintown; a brother, William R. Crissman of Carlisle; sister-in-law Sandra “Toot” L. Weller of Newport, and several nieces and nephews.

Daughter, Shelby L. Campbell; brothers, Edward “Dub” W. Crissman and John “Jack” A. Crissman; sisters Genevieve “Jean” M. Crissman and Lois “Marie” M. Dudley and son-in-law, Charles “Casey” E. Stahl, predeceased her.

Ginny liked to cook, work crossword and jigsaw puzzles and watch Game Show Network.  She loved NASCAR, especially Dale, Jr., Conway Twitty and spending time with her family.

Taking in the view of the neighborhood along the Juniata was a favorite past time.

Weekly grocery trips to the Weis Store represented a social event amongst staff, particularly with Deb & Dianna, and shoppers alike.

She missed Nelson, Shelby, Marie and Jean.  Memberships included the Newport American Legion Auxiliary, Millerstown Ladies of the Moose and Newport Ambulance.

Gratitude is expressed to the caring individuals at Hospice of Central PA, Holy Spirit AICU & 8th floor wards, Geisinger in-home nurses; and Colonial Park Care Center staff and caring roommate Claire Lanser.  Special thanks to nephew Michael L. Dudley for a lifetime of steadfast support for Aunt Gin and Uncle Nelse.  Appreciation is extended to sister-in-law Sandra “Toot” L. Weller and nephew Rick Weller for their lifelong kinship; and to neighbor Juanita G. Zeigler for always checking in.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Newport Fire House, 301 Mulberry Street, Newport Ambulance, 50 South Third Street, Newport PA   17074.

Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Thursday, January 3, 2019, in the David M.
