Shirley Rhoades Clouser, 87, formerly of Newport, passed away at The Gardens at Gettysburg
Nursing Home, on Saturday, May 25, 2019 after a short battle with cancer.
She was born August 21, 1931 at home in Newport, PA, to Lawrence W. and Nellie (Holley)
Rhoades. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She worked for the Commonwealth of PA for a time, and for many years cleaned homes, and
provided daycare for numerous children in her home. She loved gardening and writing poetry,
and volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the Senior Center. She attended Hope Eternal
United Methodist Church in Newport. Even when she became ill, she was always more
concerned about family and friends than herself.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, William V.
Clouser; her sister Helen Kennedy Cox; and her brothers Robert L. (Bobbie) Rhoades and
Stanley (Mike) Rhoades. She is survived by daughters: Sarah Heisey (Herb) of Newport,
Ronda McElroy of Fairfield who was her caregiver, Wanda Brown of Marysville, and Bonita
Weidner (Skip) of Shermans Dale; grandchildren: Scott Heisey, Rachel Rogers (Marvin), Angela
Grove (Ben), Harvey Brown (Colette), Dan Weidner, and Eric Weidner; and great grandchildren:
Abby Brown, Cassidy Grove, Elana Grove, Dylan Grove, Zeke Brougher, and Madeline Rogers.
She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews, and special friend Harry Barkley.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 1st at Hope Eternal United Methodist Church, 2 Burd Rd,
Newport PA, from 10:00 to 11:00 with the funeral service to follow. Burial will be in the Deardorff
Cemetery, Newport PA. . Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Eternal United Methodist Church.
