M. Joan Kent, 72, formerly of Newport, PA, died Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Premier at Susquehanna Village, Millersburg, PA.
Mrs. Kent was a high school math teacher for over 30 years, teaching in Sasabo, Japan, Chesapeake, VA, and at Line Mountain. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
Mrs. Kent was born in Oil City, PA, the daughter of the late Herman and Gladys (Sharrar) Walter.
Mrs. Kent is survived by a son: Dennis Kent, Jr. and his wife Suzanne of Newport, 2 daughters: Shannon Bechtel and her partner Dennis Heckard Jr. of Newport, Tamara Malakin and her husband Sean of New Cumberland, a brother Jim Walter and his wife Dawn of Millersburg, and a sister Wanda Hendershot of Millersburg, 4 grandchildren: David Bechtel Jr., Shelby Kent, Emily Bechtel and her partner Richard Moat, Jr. and Austin Kent, one great-grandchild: Bradley Moat, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 11:00am in The Valley’s Evangelical Covenant Church, 3682 Peters Mountain Road, Halifax, with a viewing from 9:00am to 11:00am, and from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Tuesday, March 3 in the David M. Myers Funeral Home, 64 N. 4th Street, Newport, PA. Rev. David Guertin will be officiating. Interment will be private.
