A Life Lived Well….. Jean L. Buffington

Blessed by a loving family and cared for by an amazing network of loving caregivers during her last several years of residency in Messiah Village our Mother,Nanny and Great Nanny lost her fight for life on December 8, 2020. During her 99 years, Jean’s life was enriched by a wide array of friends, but never more so than by the unconditional love she shared with Ray, her loving husband, who passed away in 2003 during their 61st year of marriage. It was a love story that began in high school and culminated with Jean’s cross country train trip to marry Ray at Camp Stoneman in California, prior to his deployment to Europe for WWII on December 5, 1942.

Jean worked for the Commonwealth of PA, the Fred S. Dapp Insurance Agency and retired from “the best job of her life” at Penn National Insurance in Harrisburg. After retirement Jean and Ray alternated spending winters in California and Florida before deciding to call Brooksville, FL their permanent home, where she fine tuned her bingo skills and continued her avid interest in sports of any variety.

Born on September 22, 1921 to Roy and Verna Zeiders, Jean was the lone remaining sibling to brothers Lester, Pete, Bob and her sister Lois Lindsay. Jean is survived by her sons Jere (Connie), Poway, CA and Bill (Elaine), Newport,PA, 3 grandchildren, Angela Buffington (fiance’ Ceaser Gomez), Andrew Buffington (Denise) and Erin Myers. 10 great grandchildren, Jenna Enrico (Nick), Alex Wasserman, Amanda Wasserman, Samantha Wasserman, Carter Buffington, Makenna Buffington, Mason Kauffman, Grant Kauffman, Drew Hockley and Zayden Myers. She was predeceased by a grandson, Greg Buffington, who passed away in 2018.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. To honor Jean’s memory we ask that you consider making contributions to either Messiah Lifeways, 100 Mt. Allen Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 or Citizens Fire Co #1 of Newport, 301 Mulberry Street, Newport, PA 17074.
