Donald (Don) C. Albright, of Newport, PA passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021
after reaching the age 80 years old. After a battle with cancer, he died peacefully within
his home, surrounded by loved ones.
Don was born on July 20, 1940 in Mount Union, PA to Hazel and Charles Albright. After
Hazel’s death, Charles married Mabel Hetrick, who raised Don.
Don received a bachelor’s degree from Shippensburg College. He later attended
Temple University, where he received his Master’s degree. Further, Don pursued and
received a Doctorate of Education from Penn State University. Don began his career as
an Educator which led him into School Administration as a Vice Principal at Curtain
Middle School in Williamsport, PA and later as a Principal at West Perry School District
in Perry County, PA. Don wasn’t able to sit still during retirement, so he continued to
work. He administered scholastic testing throughout the state of PA working for Westat;
Don and his late wife, Dixie Lee Albright, were weekend house parents at Milton
Hershey School; he also worked as a clerk for the Perry County Domestic Relations;
and more recently drove passenger vehicles for Perry County Transportation Authority
(Rabbit Transit) in Perry County, PA.
During Don’s time as an educator, he also coached his school’s wrestling team.
Additionally, he coached the chess club. Throughout his life he had a great passion for
nurturing flowers and plants; he was also an avid reader of books. Don was a good
father, grandfather and great grandfather. He always took care of his family and had
many friends and colleagues that he developed and maintained throughout his life. Don
was a strong, proud and good man. He is loved and will be missed by many!
Don is preceded in death by parents, Hazel Albright, Charles Albright and Mabel
Albright; children, Justin Albright; wife, Dixie Lee Albright and brother, Kenneth C.
He is survived by his fiancé, Linda Bates of Newport, PA; daughter, Julie Albright of
Hummelstown, PA; son, Joel Albright of Swansboro, NC; grandsons, Justin M. Albright
and James M. Albright; granddaughter, Kayla N. Albright; 4 Great Grandchildren and
other beloved friends and relatives.
