Melissa Hope (Asper) Kennedy, age 54, of Mechanicsburg. passed away on
Monday May 10th at Hershey Medical Center. Born in Harrisburg, PA on August
21, 1966, she was the daughter of John Wilbert Asper, Jr. of RD Newport, and
the late Maureen Elizabeth (Longwell) Asper. Like her mother, Melissa enjoyed
sewing and quilting. She also loved spending time with her family, cooking,
gardening, canning, crafting, painting, and caring for her many horses, dogs,
cats, and birds. She was a graduate of Cumberland Valley High School, and the
retired self-employed owner of Kennedy Appraisals, a real estate appraisal
service.
Melissa was the loving wife of nearly 37 years to Michael Kennedy; and the
mother of their two beloved sons, Joshua Kelly Kennedy of Mechanicsburg, and
Ian Seth Kennedy, at home. She was preceded in death by her good friend and
sister-in-law, Debra Kennedy. In addition to her loving father, she is survived by
stepmother, Bonnie (Meadowcroft) Asper, of Newport; sisters, Jennifer (Asper)
Wilson of Camp Hill, Kelly Conway(John), and Donna Knobl; nephews Nathaniel
Wilson of New Cumberland, Nathaniel Conway, and Erik Knobl; mother-in-law
Shirley Kennedy; sister-in-law Janice Costello (Bob); brother-in-law Lance
Kennedy; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be
missed by all.
Graveside service will be held on Wednesday May 19 at 10:30 am at the Newport
Cemetery (1125 Middle Ridge Rd), with an 11:30 service of remembrance to
follow at the Newport Fire Hall Community Room (301 Mulberry St).
