Phillip Lawrence Eckert, 88, of New Bloomfield PA, died at home on May 24, 2021, after a battle with dementia, and finally pneumonia. He was born on August 16, 1932 in Robesonia PA to the late William Klopp Eckert & Anna Catherine Fisher. He graduated from Penn State in 1954 and worked in Forestry for the State of PA, DCNR. In 1955, he married Marilyn Rickenbach and they raised two sons, Ashley and Jonathan and a daughter Melanie.
Phil was a kind, patient and gentle soul. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and most recently, going for long walks with his loving caregivers. He was constantly humming and singing, making up songs and lyrics as he went. He loved food! Phil also dedicated many years to the New Bloomfield Lions Club, including stage set construction for Lion's plays and raising dogs for the Leader Dogs for the Blind. After retiring from Forestry, Phil busied himself with other jobs that provided service to the community including being a member of Bloomfield Water Authority and Tree Committee. One of his most treasured jobs was being a grandfather and great grandfather. He was always ready for an outside adventure; project in his wood shop, or cartoon watching marathon. He always had a smile on his face and candy in his pockets! Phil was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Gloria Berger. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn, son Phillip Ashley and wife Jayne (Rosenbery), son Jonathan Robert and wife Beth (Rice), a daughter Melanie Ann Haire and husband Mike, four grandchildren, two great granddaughters, several cousins and many nieces and nephews.

There will be no service. Interment of his ashes will be at St. Daniels in Robesonia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Christ Lutheran Church (PO Box 448) or Lions Club (PO Box 226) of New Bloomfield 17068.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Thank you very much for taking such good care of Phil.
Phil was a classmate of mine at Mont Alto and Penn State forestry schools in the early 1950's. He was always friendly and polite, and an all around nice guy. Phil has been a member of our "Old Foresters" informal alumni group. He will be remembered as a very good friend.
