Kenneth A. "Sweg" Sweger of Newport, died Saturday November 25, 2017. Born August 20, 1931 in Camp Hill, he was the son of Viola Sweger Radabaugh.
He was a United States Army veteran serving in Germany during the Korean War. He was a heavy equipment operator with the Operating Engineers Local 542 for 50 years. Ken served as president of the IUOE Federal Credit Union for 20 years.
Ken is survived by his wife, Nancy Updegrove Hultzapple Sweger, whom he married June 24, 1989; daughter Robin Garber (Jeff); son Kevin Sweger (Kim); stepsons Michael Hultzapple (Joslin) and Deron Hultzapple (Molly);brother Marlin Way; nine grandchildren, Clint Garber (Jan), Sommer Garber, Gabe Sweger (Claire), Kayleigh Morrison (Brandan), Will Hultzapple, Thomas Hultzapple, John Hultzapple, Ben Hultzapple, Matt Hultzapple and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Beaver Sweger, grandson Chad Garber and granddaughter Melanie Sweger.
Ken was a member of Robert Burns Masonic Lodge, Harrisburg Forest #43 Tall Ceders, Harrisburg Zembo Shrine, Perry-Juniata Shrine Club, Harrisburg Consistory and Newport Masonic Lodge. He was a life member of the Linglestown Legion and Dillsburg VFW. He was a member of Highland United Presbyterian Church and served on the church session.
Ken loved working in his garage on old cars and was very proud of his 69 vette. He loved working in the yard and traveling to all 50 states and many foreign countries. Most of all, he loved his family and his work.
A viewing will be held on Friday from 5-7 PM from the David Myers Funeral Home, Newport with Masonic Services at 7 PM by the Newport Lodge #381 F&AM. Burial will be Saturday at 9 AM at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg with military honors by the Robert Hoke American Legion Post 272, Linglestown followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:30 AM at Highland Presbyterian Church, 11 Church Road, Newport with the Reverend Nancy McClure officiating.
  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to Highland Presbyterian Church, 11 Church Road, Newport,Pa. 17074.
