Dorothy B. Kinzer, 90, of Mechanicsburg, formerly of Newport, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2020. She was born November 28, 1930, a daughter of Maurice and Geraldine Seeger.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, James W. Kinzer. She will be lovingly missed by daughter Sally Haas and her husband Doug and son James E. and wife Janice, both from Camp Hill. Also surviving are grandchildren Molly Cowan, James Haas, Adam McKay, Cara Sheffield and Emma Gordner, and great grandchildren Caleigh, Andrew, Russell, Chase, Helena, Maddy and Dyer.
Dot was a graduate of Newport High School Class of 1948 and proudly organized many class reunions. She was employed in several fields including store clerk and operator for Bell Telephone before becoming a full-time mother and care giver. "Nannie" spent many hours as a babysitter for the grandchildren. They have fond memories of her, Gramps and their dogs featuring many trips to the Red Rabbit and various vacation destinations. Jim and Dot spent many enjoyable hours attending any game that included one of their grandchildren and many school events.
She belonged to several civic organizations and volunteered her time for many years as a Girl Scout troop leader and Sunday school teacher for the Newport Incarnation UCC. Upon moving to Mechanicsburg she became a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ of Mechanicsburg and continued her volunteer work.
Dot spent her last 4 years at Essex House and the Bethany Village Maplewood and Oaks facilities in comfort and under the compassionate care of their staffs. The family wishes to express its gratitude to those who provided support. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family and any donations can be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 626 Williams Grove Rd., Mechanicsburg, PA. 17055.
