Albert B (Sr) Knouse Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Albert Knouse Sr. MD, a beloved father,
grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, distinguished Army engineer, and dedicated
physician. Albert, known to friends and family as Al, left this world peacefully on
September 10, 2024, at the age of 94.
Born on November 12, 1929, in Glenside, PA, Al attended Cheltenham High School and
went on to pursue an Engineering degree at Lehigh University. Al grew up with an
unwavering sense of duty and a deep commitment to serving others. His journey began
with a distinguished career in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant during the Korean conflict
where he was assigned to a special unit, SCARWAF (special category Army Personnel with
Airforce). He made significant contributions as an engineer in the military in the European
sector while also serving with NATO intelligence.
After his military service, Al met his wife Jerry (Dunbar) Knouse and married her in 1961.
The two spent 61 faithful years loving one another until Jerry passed in January of 2023. Al
and Jerry were known for their unwavering hospitality and their ability to provide comfort to
all by opening their home to anyone. Together they traveled the world while also serving on
mission trips to Malawi, Africa alongside each other.
Al pursued his passion for medicine, earning his degree in medicine from Hahnemann
University(Drexel) and embarking on a second career as a physician. He practiced as a
family physician in Levittown, PA for 38 years. His compassion, expertise, and genuine
care for his patients made a profound impact on countless lives. In his retirement, he
continued to call on shut-in patients throughout central Pennsylvania.
His faith and service to his church and others was evident by all who knew him. Al was a
member of Newtown Presbyterian Church and Highland Presbyterian Church in Lancaster,
where he served as an Elder, Deacon and Trustee, along with leading and volunteering on
many hospitality committees who served the community. He also served on medical
missions in North American Indian Reservations.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Al was a devoted father, whose love and
guidance shaped the lives of his children and his wife, Jerry Knouse. His family was his
greatest pride. Al’s legacy of strength, integrity, and kindness will live on in the hearts of his
children and the many lives he touched.
Al is survived by his sister, Lois Woodward, children, Albert Knouse Jr. MD(Kathy), Jacqué
Reapsome(Jon), and Matthew Knouse(Kelly), and his grandchildren, Matthew Knouse MD,
Sara Weaver (Josiah), Jenna Biter (Drew), Luke Knouse, Maddison Foster (Harley), Abigayle
Knouse, Caleb Reapsome and Benjamin Knouse, his great grandchildren Calihan Weaver
and Alasdair Weaver, sister-in-law’s Jacky (Dunbar) Ferguson and Mary Dunbar, as well as

many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dear friends and colleagues, who will
remember him for his unwavering commitment to service and his warm, generous spirit.
Al’s military inurnment service will be held on Friday October 18, 1:30 PM, at Fort
Indiantown Gap. The family invites you to join them for the celebration of life service on
October 20 at Bent Creek Country Club, 620 Bent Creek Drive, Lititz PA at 12:30 PM,
followed by an ice cream social to honor Albert’s sweet tooth.
