Angela (Angie) M. Bates Harris, 52, of Newport, PA passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023 at
Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center after a year-long battle following a heart
transplant.
Angie was born in Harrisburg on September 11, 1970 to Linda and Richard Bates. She was a
1988 graduate of Newport High School where she participated in the school band as a majorette.
She was employed by The Patriot-News for twenty years before going back to school to earn her
Medical Assistant degree. She loved the beach, owls, and visits to Harshbarger’s Sub ‘N Malt
Shop for cheesesteaks and sweet tea.
Angie is survived by her mother, Linda Bates of Newport, husband, Bradley Harris of
Thompsontown, brother, Chris Bates and wife, Jen, of Newport, sister Allison Bates and fiancé
Joshua Wooding of Lancaster, brother Derek Bates and partner Taira Little of Newport, and
nephews Matthew, Andrew, Zachary, and Logan Bates. She was preceded in death by her father,
Richard Bates.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Highland United Presbyterian Church in
Newport. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am, with services and reception following immediately
after. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Angie may be made to the American
Heart Association at www.heart.org.
