Ann DeWandelaer Greene Smullen passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at the age of 87.
She was born in Philadelphia, PA. on April 2, 1935 to the late Nicholas and Ruth (DeWandelaer) Greene. Ann graduated from Penn State University in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science in Physics. She was a pioneer in the computer field and one of the first female software engineers in the greater Philadelphia area. She had a passion for computers and embraced the evolution of technology to her last day. Ann moved to Markelsville, Perry County in 1996, to her beloved Victorian farmhouse which she named Greene Pastures. There, she enjoyed warm summer days in her gardens of daylilies. Ann volunteered in the community ranging from serving on boards and volunteering at the Newport Preservation and Revitalization and Perry County Council of Arts. Ann was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Markelsville, PA. In her later years, Ann enjoyed writing books about history, family ancestors, and rhyming books for her great-grandchildren.
Holding her in loving memory are her three daughters: Elizabeth (Scott) Fair of Deland FL, Charlotte (Kenneth) Osmolenski of Millerstown PA, and Carolyn (Jeffrey) Pio of Newport PA, ten grandchildren, Kathryn Fair (James) Bulkowski of GA, Amanda Fair (Larry) Brake, Ellen Fair (Anthony) Hunter, Kerry Fair (Emil) Schmitt of FL, Gregory (Mary) Osmolenski of PA, Stanley (Mary) Osmolenski of VA, James (Bethany) Osmolenski of FL, Stasi Osmolenski (Glenn) Bell, Shelby Pio (William) Aldrich, Anthony (Maria) Pio of PA, eleven great-grandchildren, and her sister, Pricilla Greene Osgood. She was preceded in death by her brother Nicholas H. Greene.
