Bonnie Michelle (Barner) Hultzapple, 75, of Newport, Perry County, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Arden Courts- A ProMedica Memory Care Community, Harrisburg, PA, after a lengthy and challenging battle with Dementia and Alzheimer’s. Bonnie was born on March 21, 1947 to the late William and Lucille (Hepner) Barner. She was the oldest of three daughters and had a happy, fulfilling childhood, living in Hunters Valley, Liverpool, PA. After graduating from Newport High School in 1965, she went on to study cosmetology at Empire Beauty School in Harrisburg, PA. After graduation, Bonnie spent many years doing hair and perfecting one of her many talents.
Later in life, Bonnie graduated from Harrisburg Area Community College, in 1995, with an Associate’s degree in fine arts. Bonnie held other jobs that allowed her to be her friendly, patient self, performing secretarial duties at AFSCME, Newport High School, and for Moore Insurance Agency. Her favorite job, though, would have been the years she spent babysitting her grandchildren.
In January of 1981, Bonnie met Kenneth L. Hultzapple. They wed six months later on June 15, 1981. Bonnie and Ken recently celebrated their 41 st wedding anniversary. Bonnie loved to listen to music with her husband and until recently they could be seen enjoying a dance together in their living room, to their favorite songs from the 50’s and 60’s.
Bonnie was a passionate artist. From her childhood through adulthood, she saw nature as her inspiration. Bonnie would paint beautiful items found in the outdoors. She was also an incredible crafter and sewer. Bonnie created Halloween costumes for her grandchildren, ornaments for Christmas trees, and even stuffed bears for new babies. Her talents were endless and she loved making keepsakes for her family and friends.
Bonnie Michelle Hultzapple was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lucille Barner, and her sister, Brenda (Barner) Lindquist. In addition to her husband, Ken, Bonnie is survived by one sister, Billie (Barner) Jones and brother-in-law, Bruce Jones; brother-in-law, Mark Lindquist; one daughter, Kelly (Leach) Seiler and her husband, Kevin Seiler, of Liverpool; one son, Andrew Leach and partner, Colin O’Rourke, of Seattle, Washington and two stepsons, Michael Hultzapple and wife, Joli of Wilmington, North Carolina; and Deron Hultzapple and wife, Molly, of Denver, Colorado. Bonnie’s role as a grandmother was where she truly shined. She was ‘Nanny’ to her only granddaughter Madeline Seiler and fiancé Adam Forrester of Lancaster; grandson, Stiles Seiler of Harrisburg and her five Hultzapple grandsons, Will, Tommy, and Johnny Hultzapple, of Denver, Colorado and Matthew and Benjamin Hultzapple of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina.
Bonnie dedicated her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother, as well as a favorite aunt and great-aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Bonnie was always the fun aunt, swimming in the family pool with the kids, cooking their favorite dishes, and making crafts with the little ones. Bonnie loved nothing more than spending a day with her family members.
Bonnie was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Liverpool. She was a spiritual woman who believed that kindness was the key to happiness. Bonnie treated all she encountered with true friendship and honesty. Bonnie was a blessing to many and loved by everyone she met.
