Carol A (Hultzapple) Gantt

Carol A. Gantt, 78,  passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Sunday, April 30, 2023. She was born October 14, 1944 to James and Florence (Kirkpatrick) Hultzapple.

She graduated from Newport High School in 1962. Carol is survived by her sons Stephen E. Gantt (Donna) of Millerstown and Jonathan L. Gantt (Kristie) of New Bloomfield; daughter Megan S. Gantt of New Bloomfield; sister Gloria Slusser of Danville; grandchildren Mary and Matthew Gantt and nieces and nephews Chrissy, Cara, Corinne, Katie and Jack Jr. 

Carol was raised on a farm in Bucks Valley, Newport and lived in Perry County all her life.  She loved the rural, farming way of life.  A hard worker all of her life, Carol held numerous positions and more years than not, had more than one job.  She worked for Nationwide Mutual Insurance, The American Cancer society, secretary for Nancy Patterson law office, legislative aide for the House of Representatives, judge of elections for Oliver Township and secretary for many local churches.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she served as secretary for over 40 years.  As an active member of the church since she was a child, she held many roles in the church. She was a member of the choir, Sunday School teacher, treasurer and church council member to name a few.  She was a dedicated member of Perry Valley Grange and Pomona Grange.  Community service was important to Carol.  She spent many hours preparing and serving food for benefit dinners and fair food stands.  Serving the community and her church brought her great joy. 

A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, May 7th at the Hilltop Church, 721 Hillcrest Drive, Newport, PA.  A viewing will be held from 12-1:30 followed by a service at 1:30.  Burial will follow at the Wila Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 320 Market St. Newport PA 17074 or to the PA FFA Alumni Jacket Program, 405 East Sunbury St. Millerstown, PA 17074
