Connie Dorman Obituary

Connie L. (Showers) Dorman, 78, of Newport, went to be with her Lord and Savior on
Sunday, November 26, 2023.
Connie was born in Harrisburg on June 20, 1945, the second child to the late Haven and Mary
(Smith) Showers. She started her early years in Perdix, after which her family moved to Buck’s
Valley, Perry County. She attended Newport Elementary and graduated from Newport High
School in 1963. She met her future husband, Joseph E. Dorman, while they were both in school
in 1961, and they were married in June of 1963 and spent the next 60 years of life together.
Connie worked at Green Valley Campground for many years. After leaving there, she took over
as the local “Avon Lady”, loving her many customers who she considered her friends. After
serving in that job for over 20 years, she then took the position of church secretary for the Holy
Cross United Methodist Charge, of which her beloved Buck’s UM Church is a part. She held
this position until just a few months before her passing.
Connie and Joe only had one daughter, Vonnie (Dorman) Hinds. She and her husband Pat gave
them four grandsons, Patrick (Krystal), Chadd (Amy), Aaron (Alex) and Zachary. They loved
taking them all on vacation while they were little, never thinking they would be able to handle
four boys after raising one girl, but they did and did so with ease. The boys then gave them nine
great-grandchildren, Jimmy, Parker, and Emma (Patrick), Riley and Cammy (Chadd), Eileen and
Anya (Aaron), Adrien and Dylan (Zachary).
For many years, Connie and Joe went camping with their “crew” during the summer months.
She enjoyed cooking and baking, collecting gold glass and helping to take care of their many,
many cats. She blamed the large number of cats on Joe, but they were her babies too.
Connie was preceded in death by her in-laws, Joseph A. and Gladys (Roush) Dorman, a nephew,
Joseph Lyter, a brother, Dale Showers, a sister, Mary (Showers) Peters, and a brother-in-law,
Keith Dorman.
In addition to her beloved husband, daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Connie is
survived by two sisters, Barb Ashwell and Brenda Mastracchio, four sisters-in-law, Berthe
Showers, Cheryl Dorman, Pat Zellers, Janice Dorman, one brother-in-law, Paul Peters, eleven
nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and nephews and even a few great-great-nieces and
nephews.
