Donna Lee (McGowan) Flurie of Newport, passed away on January 4 th , 2021. Donna was born in
Harrisburg to Donald and Virginia (Smith) McGowan of Newport on January 27 th , 1962. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Richard Flurie and her mother Virginia McGowan. Donna graduated
from Newport High School in 1979. She played softball and was a majorette in the school band. Donna
was a retired state purchasing agent and her most memorable job there was being on nightly TV as we
affectionally called her the “Lotto Girl.” She supervised the lottery drawing where many of our family
members were able to be on TV with her to choose the winning numbers. She was a celebrity to all of
us. Donna always had a love for cats, often helping stray or abandoned cats get the help they needed.
She leaves behind her beloved Sybil, who showed up on back doorstep one day. Donna and her
husband Rich enjoyed watching Nascar and football together, Donna was a big Dallas Cowboys fan
which also became the family bone of contention as her dad was an avid Redskins fan and her mom
favored the Raiders. She enjoyed camping in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and Florida, with her parents
in their RV. Her favorite hobby was to play in various pool leagues and most recently played for the
Millerstown Moose. Donna and her father enjoyed going to car shows together, proudly showing his
antique cars over the years. Donna was very devoted to being a Godmother to her sister Debra
(McGowan) Roesler and brother in-law Steven Roesler’s children Zachary, 22, and Eliza, 19, of San
Francisco, CA. She loved meeting them on vacations and visiting them over the years wherever Debra
and Steven were stationed in the Army. She was especially helpful taking care of the children when Deb
deployed to the Middle East. Donna leaves many close family members behind including her Aunt
Barbara, Godmother and twin sister of her mother Virginia, of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
A celebration of life will be planned in the future when its safe to travel and have a gathering in her
honor. In lieu of flowers please donate in her name to the Perry County Animal Rescue.
