Eugene “Gene” D. Kapp, age 73 of Shermans Dale, passed away peacefully at home on June 28,
2024. Born on November 3, 1950, he was the son of the late George “Bud” and Florence “Flo”
Goddard Kapp. Gene is survived by his devoted wife of fifty-five years, Marjorie “Margie” (Shatto);
three children: Michelle (Douglas) Bogard of Shermans Dale, Amy (Scott) Robinson of New
Bloomfield, and Scott Kapp of Shermans Dale; four grandchildren; Emilee Robinson (Keeghan)
Morrison of Philadelphia, Samantha and Abigail Bogard of Sarasota, FL, and Aidan Robinson of
New Bloomfield;   great-grandchild: Renlee Morrison of Philadelphia and  mother-in-law Mary Louise Shatto of Shermans Dale. In addition to his
parents, Gene is preceded in death by a son, Douglas Eugene; a father-in-law, Elmer Levi Shatto;
and a brother and sister-in-law, Darwin and Marian Shatto.
Gene graduated from Newport HIgh School in 1968 where he wrestled and played baseball. After
graduation, he immediately went to work at several short term jobs before settling at Roadway
Trucking where he retired from after 37 years.
Gene was a member of the Shermans Dale Methodist Church for many years and he truly loved his
church family.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, as well as a huge fan of Penn State football,
Philadelphia Phillies and the Philadelphia Eagles. He was also an avid golfer and played year round
if the weather permitted. He was a talented woodworker and loved creating a variety of projects that
he usually shared with family and friends.
If Gene wasn’t on the course with his regular golfing buddies, he was solving the world’s problems or
fixing a lawn mower with his close friend and neighbor.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends forever.
The memorial services for Gene will be held at the Shermans Dale Methodist Church on Windy Hill
Road in Shermans Dale on Monday, July 8th. You may pay your respects to the family from 11 AM -
12 PM and the memorial service will begin at 12 PM. The burial will follow the memorial service at
Mt. Gilead Cemetery. In typical Gene fashion, we confirmed his service will not conflict with a Phillies
game.
