Gary L Sheaffer

Gary L. Sheaffer, 78, of Newport, passed away on August 8, 2023 surrounded by family. Gary was born on November 11, 1944 to Paul and Ellamae Sheaffer in Ickesburg. After graduating from Green Park High School in 1964, Gary worked for the state, leading into a job as a prison guard at Camp Hill SCI. Gary then started his career in welding for the Cumberland Bridge Company and PPL for 18 years.

In 1963, Gary met Elaine McNaughton. They wed in 1967, going on to have 3 children; Angela, Erin and Allyson. 

After retiring in 2003, Gary loved spending time with his grandkids and watching his favorite television shows such as Little League Baseball, NASCAR and old western programs. Gary was a beloved fan of Penn State and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also loved his coffee and desserts. To his family, he was best known as the master stuffing maker for holidays. Gary adored his family and loved looking forward to spending time with them on vacation every summer.

Gary was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Ellamae Sheaffer.. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Sheaffer, his siblings, T. Tom Sheaffer, Bill Sheaffer, and Faye Reeder, his children Angela Sheaffer, Erin Tharp and Allyson Valentine, and his grandchildren Marah, Zachary, Mallory, Mackenzie, Briana, Isaiah, and Olivia, as well as his great grandson, Beckham.

We request all of Gary’s friends and family to join us in celebrating his beautiful life at The Family Life Center in Newport on Sunday, August 20th, 2023; visitation from 2-3pm and services to follow.
