Genie McKensie, 96 of Newport went to eternal rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father and Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was the daughter of the late George and Pearl (Keiser) Hepler and was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was married to Robert McKensie for 40 years until his death on March 2, 1992.
She is survived by her two daughters, Donna McKensie (husband Tom Stuckey), Diane Kraft (husband, Jimmy) and her son, Doug Mckensie (wife Marjorie) and her two granddaughters, Melissa Moore and Alisson Moore Boltz (husband Justin) and great-granddaughter, Brianne Moore. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and great- nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Lillian Mace, Jayne Jackson, Ruth Hauxhurst and grandson, Brandon Baer (May 28, 2000).
Genie was a 1943 graduate of Shamokin High School. She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church since 1953 where she served on the following committees: Worship and Music and Evangelism. She also served on Church Council, Altar Guild and sang in the church choir.
Her volunteering also included the Literacy Council, Meals on Wheels and the Newport Public Library.
Genie was employed by the Commonwealth of PA Department of Education and later worked for the Census Bureau along with being a homemaker. She enjoyed playing bingo, pinochle, cooking and baking, especially pies, dining out and going to movies, plays and shopping. She was an avid reader and also loved spending time with her family. Genie loved to travel having visited Branson, Disney World, Ocean City, New Orleans Jamaica & cruising Bermuda. One of her greatest joys was going back to Jamaica in 2018 for her granddaughter, Ali’s wedding.
She left us with a legacy of love and faith and will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 11 AM at St Paul’s Lutheran Church 320 Market St., Newport, PA 17074. Family and friends are invited for a viewing at 10 AM until time of the service with the Reverend George Martz officiating. Burial services will follow in the Newport cemetery.
