Janet M. Sheaffer, 90 years old, of Newport, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2026. She was born July 31, 1935 in Newport to Raymond and Eva (Logan) Himes. She was employed in Newport with United Telephone as a telephone operator, then went to Carlisle and worked as a service provision clerk with Sprint. She retired from Sprint/United with 41 years of service.

 Janet is survived by her son, Owen Sheaffer (Candy Martin); grandchildren, Nicole, Caitlin, and Jeremy; great-grandchildren, Raelyn, Ivy, and Julian; 2 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughters Debra Urich and Joyce Henry, and sister Jean Himes.

Services are Thursday, March 26 at the David Myers Funeral Home, Newport with a visitation from 1 PM  until the funeral service at 2 PM. Burial will follow in the Newport Cemetery.
