Jason Wade Barlup Obituary
Jason W. Barlup, 45 years old, of Newport, Pa. courageously crossed the finish line to his most
challenging marathon at 9:28 pm with integrity, faith, and his dad by his side on Wednesday, June 26 th ,
2024, at Carolyn's House in Harrisburg. He was born on May 12, 1979 in Camp Hill Pennsylvania. Jason
was a proud member of the Highland United Presbyterian Church in Newport, Pa., a 1997 graduate of
Newport High School, was proud to be an Eagle Scout and Assistant Scout Master of Newport Troop 222
and a lifetime member of the National Eagle Scout Association. Jason was also a member of the Citizens
Fire Company #1 of Newport and Sons of American Legion Newport Post #177. He was a loyal employee
at ECI Construction in Dillsburg for 22 years, where he was embraced like family. Jason had a passion for
running and in his lifetime completed countless 5K’s, 10K’s, half marathons and an ironmaster’s
challenge, 50K Ultra. Jason also found joy while driving his 1968 mustang, going to car shows, hunting,
fishing, hiking, camping and most importantly, going on adventures with his friends and family. His
reserved, yet witty personality was extremely charming. To those who had the privilege of knowing
Jason, they would agree that his sense of humor was just one of many admirable characteristics. Since
diagnosed with stage 4 Renal Cancer in November of 2017, Jason stood his ground against cancer with
bravery and fierce determination to maintain a positive attitude with an aspiration to persevere. He
never complained. He firmly believed in Christianity and to live each day by the Boy Scout Law;
trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and
reverent.
Jason is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Jessica (Sowers) Barlup; children Henry and
Eleanor Barlup; his parents Donald and Linda Barlup, brother Daniel Barlup (Alyssa) and their children
Colin, Calleigh and Ava. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother Sarah Jane Kurtz and several
