Jean K. Brinser, 97, formerly of Newport, died recently at Homeland Center in Harrisburg. She
was born June 20, 1925 near Wila (Newport R.D.) to the late Herman E. and Margaret (Flickinger)
Kinzer. She was married for nearly 38 years to Foster M. Brinser until his death in March 1988.
Jean was a 1942 graduate of Newport Union High School and a 1946 graduate of Susquehanna
University. She taught business subjects for 33 years; 29 of which were at Newport schools. She
was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Newport American Legion Auxiliary, Red Hat Society,
NEA, PSEA, PASR, and an original member of the Order of Amaranth Towpath Court #138. She
participated in several bridge and pinochle clubs, Volksmarches, and a bowling league. She loved
to travel and was always ready for a trip to any destination and especially enjoyed her many
cruises and trips to Europe. She was also an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed trying out
new recipes on her family.
Jean is survived by son Steven L. Brinser (Linda) and daughter Deborah B. McDivitt (J. Gary);
five grandchildren: Christopher (Lisa), William (Brandy), James (Reneta), Jillian Doty
(Christopher) and Jessica James (Bassey); six great grandchildren, niece Wendy Ellzey and
several grandnephews and a grandniece. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also
preceded in death by her son Richard L. Brinser; infant grandson Michael T. Brinser; sister Mildred
Bolton and her son, Jay Michael Bolton.
The family thanks Homeland Center, especially the first-floor skilled staff, for the excellent and
compassionate care Jean received. It is truly a very special place.
