John Glenn Tressler, 96 years old of Newport, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024. He was born February 21, 1927, in Newport to Delbert and Anna (Bixler) Tressler. He was a member of the Hope Eternal Church, Newport and a 1945 graduate of Newport High School. He served in the Army Air Corps at the end of WW II in Germany in the 9th Air Force at Erlangen, Germany as Chief Clerk of JAG and then served stateside during the Korean War. He worked as clerk and manager of Acme Markets for 16 years and then owned and operated, with his wife, Skyline Corner General Store for 21 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman- especially fly fishing for trout with his brothers and nephews in Penns Creek. He was a tax collector for Juniata Township for 24 years and member of the Newport American Legion.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Anna (Crist) Tressler, long term friend Helen Hummel, brothers Robert, Max, Roy, Paul, Ralph and Jerome Tressler and sister Verna Asper.. John is survived by his daughters, Wanda (Tressler) Walker and husband Barry and Judy (Tressler) Robinson and husband Earl, granddaughters Christy Walker, Jenny Walker and Rachel Walker Tinari and husband John and great grandson Aaron Tinari.
Services will be held Friday, February 2 at the Hope Eternal Church, 2 Burd Road, Newport with a viewing from 10 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM. Burial will follow in the Wila Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the Hope Eternal Church.
