Judith K (Wallace) Metzger Obituary

Judith K. Metzger, 85, of Newport, died March 31 at Transitions Allens Cove, after many months of illness and health challenges. Judy was the oldest child of Charles and Lucille (Sheaffer) Wallace. On her eighteenth birthday, she married Ray Metzger and they shared nearly 63 years together, living in the exact spot, until his passing in 2022. They built their own home together, where she painted walls, stapled insulation and finished all of the hardwood floors. She was a member of the Newport First Church of God and a long time employee of the Sears catalog store in Newport, a job she remembered fondly. After that she was a member of the original crew of the Newport McDonald's. Early in life, she worked at several sewing factories in the area and always enjoyed sewing. Never one to shy away from any work, she was just as comfortable with a shovel or paint roller in her hand as a sewing needle or spatula. Even after an 8 hour work day, she could be found gardening, cleaning or organizing their home and never left a holiday pass without decorating. She loved crafting, reading, word search puzzles and shopping. Judy took pride in her home but was most proud of her family, who she loved dearly and supported in anything they did. Her biggest joy was being Nana. She is survived by her son, Steve, daughter in law Jeannie and grandchildren Matthew and Joanna.
