Kathleen M (Cranston) Rhine Obituary

Mrs. Kathleen Marian “Kathy” Rhine, 71, of Newport, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, in Newport.

Born on December 22, 1953, in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, Kathy was the beloved daughter of the late Audrey and Norman Cranston.

Kathy is lovingly remembered by her husband, John Rhine of Newport; her daughter, Paula Thumma of Florida; her grandchildren, Joshua Thumma and his fiancée Autumn of Newport, and Brianna Thumma of Florida as well as her great-grandchildren, Harlee Thumma and Jayce Thumma. She also leaves behind several nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Tom Cranston; and her sisters, Heather Carpenter and Marilyn Morrison.

Kathy had a deep love for home and family. Her joy was found in the simple pleasures—caring for her pets and the neighborhood critters who always seemed to find their way to her door. She delighted in pampering them as much as she did the people around her. A gifted cook with a generous spirit, Kathy’s kitchen was often filled with laughter and the comforting aroma of home-cooked meals. Her sense of humor was infectious—she had an uncanny ability to make everyone laugh and feel at ease.

Kathy was of the Catholic faith.  Kathy found peace in faith and beauty in nature. She especially loved watching birds from her window, finding serenity in their presence.

May Kathleen’s memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
