Kenneth E. Baer Sr., 85, of Shermans Dale, passed into eternity to be with his
Savior at Harrisburg Hospital on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 with family by
his side.
Ken was the husband of the late Dorothy L. (Zeigler) Baer, who passed away in
May 2024 and who he has missed very much. Surviving are his daughter, Teresa
Martz of Harrisburg; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Jr. and Shelley Baer of
Shermans Dale; grandchildren, Michael Shaffer, Rachel Baer and Victoria Delgado-
Martz; sister, Fay Loy of Shermans Dale; many nieces and nephews; his cats, Daisy
and Charlie; and many friends at the Shermans Dale Diner and Shermans Dale Fire
Company who were like family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover
and M. Vanetta Baer; brothers, Vernon, Ernest, Grover, Harold, Carl, and Donald;
sisters, Grace Fuller and Miriam Kitner; and son-in-law, John Martz.
Ken was a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle who enjoyed spending
time with his family, going on bus trips with his wife, and going with friends to
pick strawberries. He enjoyed sports, including playing high school basketball and
baseball, coaching his son in baseball, and watching the Phillies. He will be
remembered for his quick smile and hugs; his kind spirit and willingness to help
others; and his dedication and care for his family, especially for his wife during her
illness. He worked for Carlisle Tire and Rubber and for Land O’Lakes - Purina Mills,
retiring after more than forty years of service.
A celebration of life is being planned for a later date in early Spring of 2025. In his
memory, contributions can be made to the Shermans Dale Fire Company or the
Ambulance Association.
