Lois A (Brookhart) Kauffman

Lois Ann (Brookhart) Kauffman “Dutch”, 80, of Newport passed away January 13, 2022 at home. She was
born July 7, 1941 to the late Jesse Merrill and Stella Brookhart. Lois was a 1959 graduate of Newport High
School and 1962 graduate of Polyclinic School of Nursing. After graduating, she was a dedicated RN for many
years, which enabled her to share her desire and passion for helping others. She began her career working part
time for the late Dr. William H. Magill and the late Dr. James O. Rumbaugh of Newport. She also worked as a
psychiatric nurse at the Harrisburg State Hospital. She finished her nursing career at the Department of Health
as a nurse consultant for children with special needs and their families. Lois was a member of St. Paul Lutheran
Church of Newport and the Newport Civic Club.

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Tom; her sister, Jean Clemens; 3 daughters, Julie (David)
Morrison of Landisburg; Jane (Dan) Rice of Blain, and Joann (Eric) Weller of Newport; 7 grandchildren
Lindsay (Chelsea), Matt, and Lauren (fiancé Hayden) Morrison; Clay (Paige), and Paige Rice; Kyle and Kaleb
Weller; one great- granddaughter Addison Mae Morrison; a nephew, Mike Brookhart and niece, Beth Logan.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jesse Merrill Brookhart, Jr.

Her greatest joy in life came from being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and devoted
friend. She had a kind, sweet soul and always made everyone feel special. Her presence will be greatly missed
but never forgotten. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Newport Fire Company and Ambulance
League.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 1 – 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Market St.,
Newport, PA followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Fellowship will follow at Newport Fire Co., Mulberry
St., Newport.
