Marilyn R (Robinson) Freeland Obituary
Marilyn (Bumps or Bumpins) Robinson Freeland, 83, formerly of Newport, passed away
peacefully on December 30, 2024, surrounded by her family at Sara Todd Nursing Home. Born
in Juniata County on February 26, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Earl and H. Earlene
(Zeiders) Robinson.
She was a 1959 graduate of Newport High School and retired from the Liquor Control Board.
Other notable jobs she had included working at Campbell’s Keystone Inn and the Hershey
Hotel.
After an eight-year journey with dementia and up until the end, Marilyn maintained her
kindness, grace, dignity, and love of family and friends. Her life can be encapsulated by four ‘F’
words: Family, Friends, FOOD, and Fun. In her almost 84 years here with us, she experienced
an abundance of each. Marilyn was especially known for going on cruises and was always
looking for the next person to go on these trips with her. She had a love of camping and always
had a dog by her side. She also greeted many persons both known and to those she just met
with “You’re Beautiful” and was known to leave phone messages only to say, “I Love You”.
Marilyn is survived by her four children, Lois (Dan) Jernigan of Carlisle, Beth (Doug) Boop of
Marysville, Amy (Tony) Martin of Thompsontown, and Mark (Teresa) Freeland of Newport; one
brother, Jerry Robinson of Newport; Six Grandchildren: Markelle (Deb) Gibbs, Diontae (Katie)
Gibb, Bryan Gibbs, Sara (Damian) Close, Mackenzie Martin, and Bryce Martin; Seven great-
grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, her infant son, Dale Eugene, and sister, Joyce A.
Robinson.
All who knew Marilyn or her family are invited to pay their respects to the family on Sunday,
Jan 5 from 1:00-2:00 at Myers Funeral Home. There will be a short graveside service at 2:00 at
the Newport Cemetery, followed by a time of gathering for drinks/snacks at the Newport
