Mary E. Eckert, 90 years old, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025 at her home in Newport. She was born October 26, 1934 in Wilmington, NC to Franklin and Mary Hollis. She was an avid runner and walker- having completed three marathons.  Mary was an avid sports fan and loved rooting for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Redskins.  Mary enjoyed word search puzzles.  Mary could be seen around town at Butcher’s Market and Sharar’s Grocery.  As a young bride Mary started her life with her husband Larry in North Carolina then moved to Texas and ended up living in several different places including Kansas where her youngest son, Larry Jr. was born.  In 1969, Mary and her family found a permanent home in beautiful Perry County.  Over the years Mary and Larry traveled in their camper and attended many Blue Grass festivals. 

  Mary was the widow of  Larry E. Eckert Sr and is survived by her children Larry Eckert Jr of  Newport and Cheryl Lenker of  Harrisburg; four grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Kathy Kroesen.
