Mary J (Berrier) Seiber Obituary
It is with devastated hearts that we announce the passing of a treasured woman, Mary (Berrier) Seiber, 86, of Elliottsburg, Pa, formerly of Liverpool, Perry County. She passed peacefully on June 14, 2026. She was born in Nook, Juniata County to Stanley Berrier and Edna Stong on May 11, 1940.
Mary was a member of the Millerstown Moose and an auxiliary member of the Newport American Legion. She was an avid pet lover, shuffleboard pro, cooking genius, and game show enthusiast. She also enjoyed Nascar and sprint car racing, and was a fan of Penn State and Dallas Cowboys Football. She loved basking in the sun, whether at the beach or on her deck. Family trips to Cowan’s Gap State Park were especially a favorite. Mary had a second family – the Barner family – especially the Barner girls, where she always attended the annual Barner Christmas Party. Mary worked at Mother Hubbard’s and Welfey’s Clothing in Newport. She also worked at the Dress Factory in both Liverpool and Millerstown.
Mary was many things, but we identified her most as a rose bush – her favorite flower. Roses symbolize familial love, respect, and generational connection – the center piece of a bouquet and the center of our family – something she cherished above all else. Red roses specifically. Bright and unapologetically herself. Someone that demands to be noticed and revered. Though beautiful, roses are also built with resiliency. She weathered many storms and stood proudly and thrived in even the most inopportune environments. Roses are seemingly defenseless, yet armored with thorns as sharp as her sass, as punishing as her wit, and as brutal as her ability to put you in your place. An inner strength commanding respect and showing she will not be easily taken or be taken for granted. Proof that you can be undeniably vibrant with an unyielding foundation. A foundation her family will continue to build and grow in her honor.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, John Howard Seiber; her son Juan Matthew Seiber and fiance Janice Hestor; her granddaughters, Samantha, and fiancé Austin Fischer; Taylor, and husband Sean Brown; Cassidy and husband Kalen Macon; and her sisters Delores Shearer and Virgina Paden. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Edna (Stong) Berrier, her siblings Vivian Fry and John Berrier, her son Doug Nelson Seiber, and daughter-in-law Megan Seiber. She also had many half-siblings.
Family, friends, and others are invited to the Newport Assembly of God Family Life Center & Church at 27 W Shortcut Rd. Newport, PA 17074 on June 30th at 1:00 pm for a visitation. A service and light refreshments will follow at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Newport Legion and Auxiliary or the Newport Legion Riders.
