Mary L (Frye) Shatto Obituary
Mary Louise Shatto, 99, of Shermans Dale, peacefully entered her eternal home on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
Born on February 19, 1927, in Harrisburg, Mary Louise was the daughter of the late Carl Frye, Sr. and Margaret Gelbaugh Frye. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 72 years, Elmer Shatto Jr.; her son, Darwin E. Shatto; her daughter-in-law, Marian McGarvey Shatto; her son-in-law, Eugene Kapp; her grandson, Douglas Kapp; and her siblings, Carl Frye Jr., Dorothy Jean Finkenbinder, and Linda Kirk.
Mary Louise retired from Reese Hoffman in Carlisle in 1987 after many years of dedicated service. She was a faithful member of Shermans Dale Methodist Church and the Shermans Dale Ladies Aid, where she enjoyed serving alongside friends and fellow church members.
Mary Louise found her greatest joy in caring for her family. She was an exceptional cook, baker, gardener, and homemaker whose kitchen was always filled with love. Her peach pies, milk shakes with her homemade chocolate syrup, sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and molasses cookies became cherished family traditions, and she continued baking for those she loved until very recently. Her home was a place where family gathered, memories were made, and everyone was welcomed with a warm smile and something delicious from the oven.
Above all, Mary Louise treasured her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother whose love, kindness, and quiet strength touched generations.
She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie A. Kapp of Shermans Dale; sister Glenda R. Ritter of Shermans Dale; seven grandchildren: Jacklyn D. Kline of Lewisburg, Daphne J. Shatto of Shermans Dale, Timothy L. Shatto of Shermans Dale, Mitzi G. Richard of New Bloomfield, Michelle A. Bogard of Shermans Dale, Amy R. Robinson of New Bloomfield, and Scott R. Kapp of Shermans Dale; 17 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly.
