Mary E (Reed) Waldron Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Waldron (nee Reed) of Newport, PA, formerly of Fawn Grove, PA, died peacefully on January 3, 2026.  Born December 4, 1933, Mary had recently joyously celebrated her 92nd birthday with family and friends.

She was born in New Freedom, PA to Allen Whitefield Reed and Edith Elizabeth Reed (nee Stoner). She graduated from New Freedom High School. Once her children were of school age, Mary worked in a secretarial/clerical capacity, until her retirement, for the McCrory Corporation (MMG division) in York PA.

Mary was preceded in 2014 by the death of her husband of 61 years, the love of her life, John ("Dick") Waldron; and by her son John Allen ("Brother John") Waldron, who died in 2020.

She is survived by her brothers Buckley Reed of Hinton, WV, David Reed of Newark, DE and Michael Reed of York, PA; daughter Eydie Wight of Newport, PA; her "honorary" son Timothy  and daughter Lisa Hanzlik of Fawn Grove, PA; her grandson  Roger Cowden and his wife Katelyn of Mechanicsburg, PA; her grandson Zachary Wight and his wife Molly, and their children, Teagan and Silas, of Pine Forest, NC; her granddaughter Melody Wight and partner Keith Grahowski, of Norristown, PA, and her "honorary" grandsons Kevin Overland of Stewartstown, PA, and Nickolas Overland and his wife Caitlin of Athens, AL.

Known as "The Butterfly Lady", Mary loved surrounding herself with butterflies! Art, clothes, jewelry, socks, purses, and even shoes. She was "totally comfortable in her skin", "unabashedly herself", and the "life of any party". She loved music and was an award winning member of a barber shop quartet  for many years. She loved to dance, took art classes, craft classes, and even belly dancing classes. Family members have frequently mentioned that, "I want to be just like Mary when I grow up". She will be dearly missed by so many, and forever in the hearts of those that had the joy of knowing her.

There will be no viewing or funeral. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held April 25, 2026, starting at 11 AM at Mary's much loved Red Lion Zion Church, 1155 Felton Rd, Red Lion, PA 17356.
