Norman C Harrison, Jr.

Norman C. Harrison, Jr. of New Bloomfield, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at West Shore Hospital. Norm was born in St. Thomas, Pa. in 1938, the son of Norman Charles, Sr., and Vera (Shultz) Harrison. He graduated from St. Thomas High School (now James Buchannan) in 1956 and received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from West Chester University. He taught music in the Perry Joint and West Perry Schools for 13 years and assisted with the Chambersburg High school marching band for his friend Lynn Lerew for 25 years. In 1972, he and Kay purchased Frownfelter's Greenhouse, and with the help of Luther Frownfelter, revived and operated it until selling it in 1996. During this time,he also started a 25-year career as a rural mail carrier in the New Bloomfield post office. He loved little theater and was active in the New Bloomfield Lions Community Theater for nearly 50 years. He was a 60+ year member of the New Bloomfield Lions Club and was active in his church, New Bloomfield United Methodist, as a member of the choir and as a Sunday school teacher.

Norm leaves behind his wife Kay (nee Burkart) with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage and children Andrew Charles, husband of Angie, of New Bloomfield, daughter Elizabeth Ann, wife of Jason Patton of Warsaw, Va; and grandchildren Charles and Grace Harrison, and Harrison, Jonah, Christian Patton. Also surviving is a sister, Mary E. Rohrbacker of Rochester, NY. He was predeceased by a sister, Margie Pauline Hege, of Chambersburg, Pa and special nephew, Steve Hege of New Bloomfield.

Services will be held Thursday, May 18 from the New Bloomfield United Methodist Church with a visitation from 3 PM until the Memorial Service at 4 PM.
