Ruby J. McCarson, 92, of Newport, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2023 at her daughter's home in Hummelstown. She was born to Edward J. and Maggie Shetterly Lindsay on July 12, 1930.
She married J.A. "Chuck" McCarson of North Carolina on August 27, 1948. He died in August 1994.
Ruby was a talker and an even better listener. She worked at J.J. Newberry's in Newport from 1948 until it closed in 1991. That was her job and her social life and she was known as "The 5 &10 Lady."
She was a member of the Newport First Church of God, Newport and a member of the Newport Revitalization and Preservation Society. She and Chuck became caretakers of the Louise Beard Memorial in Newport in 1988.
She is survived by her two daughters, Jo Ann McCarson of Newport and her daughter, Whitney Murray and husband Vance of Camp Hill, and daughter Jackie Imhof and husband Hank of Hummelstown, and their daughter Jamie Pauls of Harrisburg, three step-grandsons Adam, Eric, and Ryan Imhof, and step-great-granddaughter, Morgan.
She was preceded in death by brothers Marlin Lindsay, Paul "Red" Lindsay, and sister Mella Barkley.
Services will be held Saturday, May 6 from the Newport First Church of God with a viewing from 10 AM until the funeral service at 12 PM. Burial will follow in the Newport Cemetery.
