On Tuesday, February 2, 2021, Stephen R. McCrady, 70 years old, a much loved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend departed his earthly home in Shermans Dale for his heavenly home. A man of integrity, Steve knew and loved Jesus Christ and his church home was Newport Assembly of God.
Steve was born March 20, 1950 in Bowling Green, KY to Jane Webb Johnson and the late Richard McCrady.
At 19 he enlisted and proudly served his country in the United States Army, which included a tour in Viet Nam in 1969 - 1970, as door gunner, then crew chief with the 134th Assault Helicopter Unit, which was then followed up with a rewarding career in the Pennsylvania National Guard at Fort Indiantown Gap. At retirement Steve had achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7) with over 25 years of honorable service. He was a soldier's soldier.
After retiring from the PA National Guard, he began a new career path as an Auctioneer, having sales that were well-attended and with Steve's personality a fun event. In addition to auctioneering, Steve, along with his wife, had much success in raising and showing American Quarter Horses. Steve consistently raised and showed horses that achieved Grand Champion status, being in the winner's circle many times at major horse shows.
Stephen's Pennsylvania survivors include his wife and soul mate of 51 years, Deborah (Shipper) McCrady, son and daughter-in-law Chad and Susan McCrady, Grandchildren Hunter McCrady and Alicia McCrady (Tom Tran), sister-in-law and husband Lynette and Brian Zern, nieces Stacey Campbell (husband Troy and son Colton), Shannon Wiest (husband Shane and daughters Addison and Olivia), nephew and niece Nathan and Denise Zern, and very best life-long friends Steve and Cindi Wenger.
Steve's Kentucky survivors include his mother Jane Johnson, sister and husband Beth and Keith Greishaber (children Zachary and Amy Selter and Skye and Bradley Pence), brother and wife Paul and Shannon Johnson (son Kanah), sister-in-law Carol McCrady (James Hayes), nephew and wife Robert and Sherry McCrady (son and family Josh and Shana McCrady, Xander, Paxton and Everleith), niece and husband Betsy Jo and Paul Ford (daughter and family Hannah and Stephen Dossey and Vivi Claire). He was preceded in death by brother Clyde McCrady and sister-in-law Jackie Johnson.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Steve's Life and interment at Fort Indiantown Gap will be held at a later date. Notification of the Celebration will be forthcoming from the family.
