On July 2, 2024, Steven G. Wetzler, 76, of Hampden Township, Mechanicsburg died peacefully. Steve’s
family is profoundly saddened to announce his passing; however, relieved that after a more than 3-year
valiant battle with cancer, he is pain free.  Beloved husband of over 48 years to Winnie A. (Carl) Wetzler,
he was a devoted Father to his adored daughter, Karen Wetzler Miller (Jeremy) of Mechanicsburg; son
David S. Wetzler (Tammi) of Mifflintown and Benjamin S. Wetzler of Ohio. His cherished grandchildren:
Brady Carl, Maxwell Jeremy, and Evalina Frances Miller of Mechanicsburg, were his pride and joy. He is
survived by a sister, Susan (Joe) Burkepile of Virginia. Steve is pre-deceased by his parents, Donald E.
Wetzler and Betty Jean (Reisinger) Wetzler and three brothers, Allen, Lane, and Michael Wetzler.
Steve was retired after 20+ years from the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections as a Corrections
Officer and Records Officer Supervisor at SCI Camp Hill. He was an avid sportsman, shooter, hunter,
inventor, and published lyricist. He was a U.S. Navy Combat Veteran, Boatswain’s Mate Second Class (E-
5), who served 3 tours in Vietnam during which he worked on a landing craft navigating the rivers in
northern South Vietnam and the South China Sea area while transporting cargo for the troops serving in
the I Corps Zone. He proudly earned the designation of Craft Master and commanded his own boat with
a 13-man crew at the prime age of 21. Steve deservingly was awarded the following medals: The
National Defense Service Medal; The Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Stars; The Republic of Vietnam
Campaign Medal with device; the Navy Unit Commendation Medal; and The Combat Action Ribbon.
Steve was a Member of Silver Spring Presbyterian Church, Mechanicsburg Sportsmen’s Club, Newport
American Legion, Lower Allen VFW Post 7530, NRA, Ducks Unlimited and Delta Waterfowl Foundation.
Graveside services at Fort Indiantown Gap will occur on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at 10:30 a.m., arrival
at 10:15, and a Celebration of Life on July 10, 2024 at 11:30 a.m., at VFW Post 7530, 4545 Westport
Drive, Mechanicsburg. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Central PA or VFW Post 7530.
