Wendy G (Schnitzer) Hummel Obituary
Wendy Hummel, 61, of Millerstown, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, August 9, 2025,
after suffering a stroke earlier in the week. Born on March 24, 1964, in Morristown, New Jersey,
Wendy was the cherished daughter of Patricia Szabo and the late Robert Schnitzer.
She is survived by her loving mother, Patricia Szabo, and her devoted brother, John Schnitzer.
Wendy was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Schnitzer, and her husband, John Hummel, with
whom she shared 32 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2016. Together, Wendy and
John enjoyed riding motorcycles and taking scenic road trips, embracing the freedom of the open
road and the joy of shared adventures.
Wendy is also survived by her three sisters-in-law: Jane Schnitzer, Lori Schnitzer, and Barbara Hain,
as well as her father-in-law, Paul Hummel.
Wendy was an avid traveler, having taken dozens of domestic and international trips with her mother.
Their journeys were filled with laughter, discovery, and a deep bond that extended beyond travel.
Together, they also volunteered their time and talents to create Prayer Shawls—handmade gifts of
comfort and support for those experiencing grief or illness.
A lifelong animal lover, Wendy found joy in caring for cats and frequently fostered them until they
found their forever homes. Her creativity shone through in her love for crocheting, baking, and
crafting, hobbies that brought beauty and warmth to those around her.
Professionally, Wendy dedicated over 30 years to PHEAA, where she was known for her diligence
and kindness. In her later years, she continued to serve her community by working part-time at the
Newport School District Administration Office.
Despite a courageous battle with cancer, Wendy remained resilient and full of life. Just weeks before
her passing, she attended a joyful family reunion in Aruba, a testament to her enduring spirit and love
for family.
In recent years, Wendy shared a deeply loving and supportive companionship with Jeff McFarland.
Jeff became her close partner and constant source of strength. Together, they remodeled a home to
build a life together. Throughout Wendy’s medical treatments and challenges, Jeff was unwavering in
his care, compassion, and presence—always by her side.
Wendy did not wish to have a formal funeral. In accordance with her wishes, a small graveside
service for family will be held later this fall.
Wendy’s life was a beautiful tapestry of love, generosity, and adventure. She will be deeply missed
and forever remembered by those who knew and loved her.
