William J. Reighter, 70 years old, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at his home in Newport. He was born August 12, 1953 to Nancy Jensen Dorman and John Reighter. He was a 1972 graduate of Newport High School and 1976 graduate of Shippensburg University. He retired in 2010 from Newport Elementary School, having taught second grade for 4 years and fourth grade for 29 years. He coached many sports but mainly basketball at Newport and track and cross country at Greenwood and kept stats for the Hershey Bears for 20+ years.. He was a member of the Incarnation United Church of Christ, Newport, Newport Fire Company, and Newport Social Order of Owls.

  Bill is survived by his wife,  Kathy Sheaffer Reighter; children Christopher Enck (Paige) of Spring Grove, Ashley Weller (Sam) of New Bloomfield, and Dane Reighter (Danielle) of Port Royal; brother John Reighter of Mechanicsburg; sister Judith A. Clever of Philadelphia and grandchildren Morgan Martin, Camden Enck, Andrew and Colton Weller and Delaney, Daxson and Dallas Reighter, and many nieces and nephews.

 Bill loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.  Family vacations at the beach were a hi-lite each summer.  Bill and Kathy will have celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on August 14.  They loved traveling and making new friends on their travels.  Bill touched many hearts during his teaching and coaching years and will be forever missed.

  A viewing will be held Sunday, August 11 from the David Myers Funeral Home, Newport from 3-6 PM and Monday services will be from the Incarnation UCC with a viewing from 1PM until the funeral service at 2 PM. Burial will follow in the Newport Cemetery.
