Florence Isabella Bower, 91, resident of The Woods at Cedar Run, Camp Hill, formerly of Blain, PA, left this earthly world March 15, 2017 to spend eternal life in heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Florence was born July 12, 1925 in Wilkes-Barre, PA to Isabella and Thomas Jones. She lived her schoolgirl years in Wilkes-Barre and Pocono area, attended Wilkes College and graduated from Bucknell University class of 1947 with a degree in English Literature. Her initial teaching position brought her to Blain where she met her husband, Claude (Bud) Bower. She settled into country life becoming accustomed to the joys and challenges of farming while continuing her teaching career. Florence retired from teaching after many years within the Blain Union and West Perry school districts. During this time she earned her Master's Degree in Library Science, hence her love of reading, research and literature. Florence was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Blain Lions Club, and the Senior Citizens Center.
Among Florence's joys and passions were a love of travel, adventure, art and music. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, a selfless caregiver, a loyal and caring friend. Her grace, humility, compassion and empathy will forever be remembered by all who knew her.
Florence was the widow of Claude (Bud) Bower, to whom she was married for over 54 years. Florence is survived by her loving daughters Claudia Barry, Belinda Gemme and Bridget Calvin; son-in-laws Fred Gemme and Jeff Calvin; and cherished and beloved granddaughter Elizabeth Calvin.
A Celebration of Florence's life will be held April 22 at Zion Lutheran Church, Blain, PA. Family visitation will be at 10:00 am with the service beginning at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 127, Blain, PA. 17006.
